Review the digital reading lessons

We invite you to review a sample of the digital lessons used in this Learn to Read program.

Students are taught a phonics approach to reading words, vocabulary and sight words. Each chapter features a story using each of the component skills taught in prior lessons.

The video comes from the content on Digraphs and Blends.

Overview of Book 2, Long Vowels:

The English language has a 26 letters in the alphabet. Twenty of those letters are consonants and 5 are always vowels one, (Y) will sometimes be a consonant and other times will be a vowel.  Each of five vowels (a, e, i, o, and u) has two sounds, a long vowel sound and a short vowel sound.  Every word has at least one vowel.

Book 2 teaches the strategy to identify long vowels and to read long vowel words.  Book 3 teaches short vowels and how to read short vowel words.  Our standard approach is to teach long vowels first and then short vowels second, but many schools will teach short vowels first.   You may decide on which order makes the most sense for your students.
